This is my first song I've ever written, recorded and gotten produced for release! Very exciting :)
Some backstory on the song's origin: I was sitting at my piano one day thinking about all of my friends who are in relationships, getting engaged, getting MARRIED -- whoa, let's slow our roll. I mean, I'm content with my life, I love my family and friends, I'm in good health, and I'm excited about my career goals, but one piece is undoubtedly missing... a romantic partner. I decided to be a bit vulnerable and honest here and share my discontent with being single sometimes, asking myself rhetorically, when's my turn?
My goal for this song was to be longing, but hopeful, and to let other people in my position be reminded that they're not alone. Also, I wanted to convey the message that I'm right there with you; even though it's tough sometimes, and it's completely valid to wonder when that time will come, but it doesn't define you. Try and enjoy this time in your life for what it is.
I hope you enjoy this upbeat and funky tune as much as Tom and I did making it. Special shoutout to him for bringing this song to life and helping me construct it every step of the way.
lyrics
(Verse 1)
I don't think I'm made for it,
They keep saying just wait for it,
But as time goes by,
I'm wonderin' why,
Love's so hard to find
Stay up all night long 'bout it,
Now I'm writing this song 'bout it,
Got my head up high,
Still wonderin' why,
I can't make up my mind
(Chorus)
I want a true romance,
With the living room slow dance,
Just trippin' over feet and over feels (aye),
Blushin' 'cause the love is so real,
I wanna hold your hand,
While we talk about all our plans,
Is my time running out?
I'm starting to doubt,
So I keep asking myself,
Will it ever be my turn?
Will it ever be mine?
(Verse 2)
This won't last forever I know,
I got friends wherever I go,
I ain't ever ridin' solo,
So don't forget you're never really alone,
We can be happy on our own,
But damn...
(Chorus)
I want a true romance,
With the living room slow dance,
Just trippin' over feet and over feels (aye),
Blushin' 'cause the love is so real,
I wanna hold your hand,
While we talk about all our plans,
Is my time running out?
I'm starting to doubt,
So I keep asking myself
(Bridge)
Will it ever be my turn?
Will it ever be my turn?
Will it ever be my turn?
Will it ever be mine?
(Chorus)
I want a true romance,
With the living room slow dance,
Just trippin' over feet and over feels (aye),
Blushin' 'cause the love is so real,
I wanna hold your hand,
While we talk about all our plans,
Is my time running out?
I'm starting to doubt,
So I keep asking myself,
Will it ever be my turn?
Will it ever be mine?
